Using particle emitters and different fields, I simulated different occurrences. Snow falls outside as a fire burns in the fireplace, smoking slowly.
The snow is made using sprite particles with an alpha I made in photoshop that emit from a plane above the building. There is a gravity field above that that pushes the "flakes" down. A turbulence field is also affecting the particles to make them appear to be blowing in the wind.
Inside, there are two other particles; the fire and the smoke. The smoke is created from emitting cloud particles from a plane hidden in the logs. It has a uniform field attached to it to push the smoke up. The fire particles are created by an object emitter attached to all of the logs. The particles are all multi streak particles that have a color ramp on them. The same uniform field that is attached to the smoke is also attached to the fire, but the fire also has its own turbulence field to help push it around more realistically.
